ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:
Hi everyone! My name is Mr. Zach Henderson, and I am your instructor for these physical education classes! I recently received my degree in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton (with a concentration in teacher education), and I have always been very excited to stay active and healthy. Whether it is through individual sport, team sport, or discovering activities that keep people active, I believe everyone can obtain a healthy lifestyle, and...ENJOY it! I love to incorporate new ideas and concepts regarding physical fitness into the class experience because it makes the material more fun and relevant for today's world! I played ice hockey for 18 years, and lacrosse for 5 years, and I have also coached high school lacrosse at Aliso Niguel High School for the past 6 years! I am excited to get to know all of you and help each of you find what makes you move and healthy!

COURSES
Freshman/sophomore physical education
This course introduces students to the skills and tools necessary to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. This class is offered to 9th and 10th grade students. While some of the activities and skills will be familiar to students from their middle school classes, this class dives into the numerous options of activities, while also developing a student that has the knowledge and basic movement skills necessary to participate in multiple activities. This class will focus on the individual student and what suits them best for their physical fitness. While we will play team sports, this class is not concerned with the "biggest, fastest, or strongest" students. Developing a basic knowledge of numerous activities and skills is our goal!
Weight training
This course is developed for students who have already completed their 9th grade physical education requirement. Grades 10-12 can enroll in this class. For students who may not be playing a sport, or choose to further enrich their physical education experience, this course focuses on the individual in the setting of a gym. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of and competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities (i.e. lifting weights). Students will also be able to understand and explain which muscles are impacted the most for specific activities, and be able to design programs specific to an individual or a desired goal.
